Today we went on an amazing field trip to NOAA's Galveston Sea Turtle facility. They raise baby sea turtles to release back into the wild. It was a very educational experience where we learned about sea turtle preservation, endangerment and prevention. My little munchkin was so happy and had so much fun. Check out these cool pictures. They had three age groups of turtles. The littlest guys are hatchlings born last July, then they had 1 year olds and 2 year olds who were getting close to release.
The two images directly above are of a shrimp net that is equipped with a TED (turtle excluder device) to prevent turtles from being trapped inside the net during long shrimping expeditions. The kids were allowed to play in it and pretend they were turtles. I love places that encourage animal preservation and respect of nature. He will now be more conscious of where his trash is disposed of and on the look out for turtles when we fish. Best of all it was free, you can't beat that.
